OPINION:
Am I the only one to see the irony of Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates announcing his intention to close the Joint Forces Command (JFCOM) - which has 6,000 military, civilian and contract employees and an annual budget of $240 million - at a time when Congress is sending the president a $26 billion bailout (“Pentagon belt-tightening will cut jobs,” Web, News, Monday)?
If Congress had sent a $25 billion bailout instead, the Defense Department could have had about four more years of the JFCOM. The JFCOM concept needs to be implemented across the administration. If it were, just maybe Congress would not be sending $26 billion we do not have to states that need to find a way to live within their means.
The inmates truly are in charge of the asylum.
