Several power systems have been shut down aboard the International Space Station after a cooling system malfunctioned.
NASA says in a posting on its website that one of two cooling loops aboard the space station was shut down Saturday night. A module that pumps ammonia coolant to prevent equipment from overheating was still shut down early Sunday.
The problem also forced two of the station’s four gyroscopes to shut down along with several other systems.
NASA says the crew was not in danger but was awakened by several warning alarms when the cooling loop went down. Tracy Caldwell Dyson was working to fix the problem while her crewmates went back to bed. There are two spare coolant pump modules on board in case the astronauts need to replace it.
