On Oct. 30, 1960, the Redskins lost 31-10 to Cleveland. At a subsequent press luncheon, owner George Preston Marshall told coach Mike Nixon to give an alibi for the blowout. When Nixon refused, Marshall responded, “I’m in the ticket-selling business, and after you get beat 31-10, you need an alibi.”
