New Bruni LP due
French first lady Carla Bruni will release a third pop album in July, featuring 14 songs, most of which were written before she met President Nicolas Sarkozy, Agence France-Presse reported yesterday.
The as-yet-untitled album includes a vintage Bob Dylan tune, an Italian song and a piece based on a poem by French author Michel Houellebecq, says Miss Bruni’s agent, Bertrand de Labbey. Among the brow-raising titles on the album are “My Junk,” about drugs, and “Love Song,” but Mr. De Labbey says they were written more than two years ago.
Miss Bruni, 40, composed the music and wrote the lyrics to most of the songs on the album, which is due out in France, Britain, Germany and her native Italy on July 21.
The former supermodel — who veered into music in her mid-30s — married Mr. Sarkozy in February after a three-month romance and has said she will be his wife “until death.” Her first album, “Quelqu’un M’a Dit” (Someone Told Me), released in 2002, was a hit with about 1.2 million copies sold in France and 800,000 abroad. Her second release, “No Promises” in early 2007, was considered a disappointment with only 80,000 copies sold. That album featured English poems set to music.
Miley pic cited in suit
An outfit famous for making less-than-attractive people look halfway decent is suing Disney over Hannah Montana candy.
Glamour Shots (you know, the mall photo-shoot experts) claims Disney ripped it off by marketing Hannah Montana Glamour Shots Candy, TMZ.com reports. The candy is packaged in little picture frames with shots of 15-year-old Miley Cyrus inside. The photo company claims using the name Glamour Shots tricks people into believing Glamour Shots made the sweet treat.
No comment from the Mouse house, TMZ said.
Mr. Sulu to say ’I do’
Actor George Takei is the latest celebrity to announce plans to wed after California’s Supreme Court allowed gay marriage under the state’s constitution, People.com reports.
“Our California dream is reality,” the former “Star Trek” star, 71, wrote in a post on his Web site. “Brad Altman and I can now marry. We are overjoyed! At long last, the barrier to full marriage rights for same-sex couples has been torn down. We are equal with all citizens of our state!”
Mr. Takei, who played Sulu on the original ’60s TV series, came out in 2005. He has been with his partner for more than 21 years.
Last week, Ellen DeGeneres declared that she would wed longtime girlfriend Portia de Rossi.
On the road again
Though going out on tour means connecting with fans, it also can mean long hours, high stress and sleepless nights.
Janet Jackson says she’s looking forward to all of it.
“I love all of that, all of that pressure, I really do,” Miss Jackson told Associated Press yesterday as she announced plans for a nationwide tour that’s set to kick off in September.
The tour, which opens in Vancouver, British Columbia, Sept. 10 and includes stops in New York and the District (the date hasn’t been announced yet), is Miss Jackson’s first in seven years.
“I was supposed to go on tour with the last album,” she said, referring to the 2006 CD “20 Y.O.” The Grammy winner said her record label wanted her to wait for her latest CD, “Discipline.”
