Ringo walks off ’Regis’
Ringo Starr is known for being the amiable Beatle, but the rock star showed his tough side yesterday when he walked off the set of “Live With Regis and Kelly” rather than cut short one of his songs, Associated Press reports.
Mr. Starr, who is promoting his new album, “Liverpool 8,” planned to perform the title song with fellow rocker Dave Stewart. However, due to miscommunication between his publicist, Elizabeth Freund, and the musical director, Mr. Starr didn’t realize the performance had to be 2 ½ minutes or less, Miss Freund told AP.
“We offered to cut back our chat time and asked them to fade or go to commercial. They were not willing to do that and Ringo was not willing to cut it further, so without a compromise we were not able to stay,” Miss Freund said.
“Ringo left saying, ’God bless and goodbye. We still love Regis.’ ”

In grainy footage obtained by the British tabloid the Sun, Miss Winehouse, 24, is seen inhaling fumes from some sort of pipe reportedly hours before showing up for husband Blake Fielder-Civil’s court appearance in London last Friday. The troubled pop star, now sporting a blond hairdo in place of her signature black beehive, can be seen walking around. She sits down and, before lighting the pipe, can be heard saying that she’s “had about six Valium.”
Her publicist, Tracey Miller, declined to comment yesterday, AP said.
Miss Winehouse is nominated for six Grammy Awards, including best new artist and album of the year for her acclaimed disc “Back to Black,” plus record and song of the year for the brassy hit “Rehab.”
No Grammy pickets
The striking writers guild said yesterday it has decided against picketing the upcoming Grammy Awards, AP reports.
However, the Writers Guild of America’s board of directors has yet to grant the music industry show a waiver that would allow writers to participate, a guild spokesman said.
