American 87, Lafayette 76

EASTON, Pa. — Garrison Carr scored 32 points to lead the Eagles (11-11, 4-3 Patriot) to a victory over the Leopards (14-8, 5-2) yesterday.

Bryce Simon added 12 points for American, while Cornelio Guibunda had 10 rebounds. Andrew Brown scored 22 points for Lafayette, while Bilal Abdullah and Matt Betley each added 16.

Lafayette opened the game with a 10-2 run, but Carr scored 14 points as American countered with an 18-2 run to take a 20-12 lead with 7:52 remaining in the half. A pair of 3-pointers by Brown tied the score 20-20 and 23-23, but American went on a 17-7 run to take a 40-30 halftime lead.

The Eagles started the second half with a 15-4 run and led 55-36 with a little less than 14 minutes to play. Betley’s 3-pointer cut the lead to 59-50 with 10:36 remaining, but American stretched the lead to 16 on Carr’s layup that made it 69-53 with 6:25 to go.

American outrebounded Lafayette 37-28.

N.C. A&T 72, Howard 56

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Steven Rush scored 24 points and the Aggies (11-9, 5-2 MEAC) made 13 3-pointers in a victory against the Bison (5-16, 2-5).

Austin Ewing and Ed Jones both had 16 points for North Carolina A&T, which extended its winning streak to six games — the longest such streak in 12 seasons.

Randy Hampton had 19 points and Eugene Myatt added 13 for Howard, which has lost 12 of 14.

Colgate 84, Navy 77

ANNAPOLIS — Mike Venezia scored a career-high 18 points, and the Red Raiders (11-10, 3-4 Patriot) had five players score in double figures in a win over the Midshipmen (10-12, 3-4) at Alumni Hall.

Kendell Chones had 17 points and nine rebounds for Colgate, which beat Navy for the sixth straight time.

Kyle Roemer added 15 points, six rebounds and five assists; Alex Woodhouse had 10 points, eight rebounds and five blocked shots; and Daniel Waddy had 10 points, eight assists and five rebounds for the Red Raiders.

Kaleo Kina led Navy with 21 points. Chris Harris scored 15.

Greg Sprink, the leading scorer in the Patriot League, made just three of 23 shots — the worst shooting night of his career — and fouled out with 1:10 left.

Drew 66, Catholic 64

MADISON, N.J. — Dave Pepperman’s putback with five seconds left carried the Rangers (6-14, 3-6 Landmark) to a win over the Cardinals (8-12, 2-7).

David Cramer led four Drew players in double figures with 18 points.

Jason Banzhaf paced Catholic with 14 points. Evin Yarbrough scored 13, and Wes Parker added 12.
