THE BUZZ

Redskins’ defense: Up Strong pass rush and tight coverage stifle league’s No. 1 pass offense

Mike Sellers: Up A 280-pound, multipurpose weapon? Scary

Detroit Lions: Down Worst 3-1 team in the league now looks like the worst 3-2 team

Keenan McCardell: Up It only took 16 years to play for his original team

PLAYERS OF THE GAME

Jason Campbell and Antwaan Randle El Nothing like a porous, pitiful defense to cure what ails you. Campbell, kept mostly untouched by his line, threw two touchdown passes and carved up the Lions with career highs in completions (23) and yards (248) with no interceptions. Randle El replaced injured Santana Moss as Campbell’s No. 1 target and caught seven passes for 100 yards in the first half before leaving with a hamstring injury.

PLAY OF THE GAME Quarter: Second, 2:45 remaining Score: Redskins 7, Lions 0 Situation: Redskins’ ball, fourth-and-2 at Detroit 38 The play: Antwaan Randle El, having an easy day against the Lions secondary, lined up wide to the left and ran a simple slant across the middle. He caught Jason Campbell’s pass in stride about 7 yards downfield and raced all the way to the Detroit 1 for a 37-yard gain, setting up Mike Sellers’ run that gave the Redskins a 14-0 lead.

Washington Redskins at Green Bay Packers When: Sunday, 1 p.m. Where: Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wis. TV/radio: Ch. 5, FM-92. 7, FM-94.3, FM-100.3, AM-730 Outlook: The Redskins (3-1) dominated the Lions yesterday but face a much tougher challenge against the surprising Packers, who took a 4-0 record into last night’s game against Chicago. Green Bay’s defense will provide far more resistance than Detroit, and ageless quarterback Brett Favre has taken the early lead in MVP consideration. But the Redskins’ defense stymied pass-happy Detroit, and the Packers entered last night’s contest averaging an NFL-worst 54.3 rushing yards a game.
