SEEN AND HEARD AT RFK STADIUM

There has been plenty of talk about the Nationals finally getting their starting rotation back after four members were beset by injuries. But perhaps the organization feels it has an even better option than some of those pitchers in 22-year-old John Lannan.

The right-hander, the club’s 11th-round draft pick in 2005, opened the year at Class A Potomac, was promoted to Class AA Harrisburg and now will be promoted to Class AAA Columbus after going a combined 9-2 with a 2.60 ERA. He could be in Washington within months.

“I think you could see him here any day,” general manager Jim Bowden said.

OVERHEARD

“It’s unique circumstances that give him a cup of coffee or a double Starbucks vanilla latte. Whatever you want to call it.”
