By the Rover’s count, the Brits have at least four exceptional twentysomething talents in Justin Rose (26), Paul Casey (29), Nick Dougherty (25) and Luke Donald (29), while the United States boasts only one: Sean O’Hair (24). Translation: expect many more one-sided Ryder Cups over the coming decade.

{bullet} After posting a sloppy 77 yesterday, Phil Mickelson informed the media that Oakmont was not just an extremely difficult golf course, but was in fact hazardous to one’s health.

“It absolutely is dangerous,” said Mickelson, lamenting the extremely heavy stand of rough Oakmont cultivated in preparation for this week’s Open and the jarring impact playing out of it has on one’s body.

“The first practice round on Monday [therapist] Jim Weathers had six other appointments, people hurting their ribs, their backs, their wrists.” Mickelson added. “It’s dangerous. It really is.”

Maybe Mickelson wouldn’t feel so physically threatened at future Opens if he spent a little more time lifting barbells instead of beignets.
