10 a.m. — Procession to George Washington’s Tomb for a special wreath-laying ceremony

11 a.m. — Annual Red, White, and Blue Concert with the Concert Band of America

1 p.m. — Maryland Militia and First Virginia Regiment perform Revolutionary War demonstrations.

Highlights — 10 a.m. — Presentation of colors by the Continental Color Guard, performance by the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Fife and Drum Corps and remarks by Allen Weinstein, archivist of the United States and by filmmaker Ken Burns

Folklife Festival — 11 a.m. — The Smithsonian Institution holds its 41st annual Folklife Festival with exhibits “Mekong River: Connecting Culture,” “Northern Ireland at the Smithsonian” and “The Roots of the Virginia Culture” through Sunday. July 4 parade — 11:45 a.m. — The National Park Service sponsors the 2007 Independence Day Parade. Carillon concert — 2 p.m. — The National Parks Service’s George Washington Memorial Parkway sponsors a concert at the Netherlands Carillon, a 49-bell tower, featuring a carillonneur playing the bells for visitors. Monument concert — 4:15 p.m. — The National Park Service holds an Independence Day concert. Guest artists include the U.S. Navy Band with Steve Azar and Carolyn Dawn Johnson. U.S. veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars recuperating at Walter Reed Army Medical Center will be transported to the Washington Monument grounds for the concert. College Park concert — 7 p.m. — The University of Maryland and the city of College Park hold a concert with Johnny Seaton and his All Star Band to commemorate the Fourth of July. Capitol concert — 8 p.m. — The National Symphony Orchestra and the National Park Service hold the Capitol Fourth 2007 Holiday Concert. The concert will feature recording artist Elliot Yamin, Granny Award-winning gospel legend Yolanda Adams, Tony Award-winning actress Bebe Neuwirth, National Symphony Orchestra conductor Erich Kunzel and host Tony Danza. Capping off the show will be a rendition of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” complete with live cannon fire provided by the U.S. Army Presidential Salute Battery. Location: West Lawn, U.S. Capitol.
