NEW YORK Rising rapidly beyond the left-field fence is Citi Park, the Mets’ new stadium.

Due to open in 2009, it looks like it could be completed well before that.

In the three months since the Nationals were last in town, workers have built up a sizeable portion of the stands, including the first-base upper deck.

Designed as an homage to Brooklyn’s old Ebbets Field, Citi Park promises to be a huge upgrade over dilapidated Shea, the worst stadium in the major leagues.

 Yes, worse than RFK.

BY THE NUMBERS

.251 Batting average for Nationals with runners in scoring position entering yesterday’s game, the high point of the season.

TOMORROW’S GAME
