Bash for the Beckhams
A glittery array of actors and entertainment-world luminaries turned out Sunday for what was billed as the official welcome-to-Los Angeles party for international soccer icon David Beckham and his wife, Victoria, Associated Press reports.
For the British Beckhams, it was a taste of classic Hollywood. And with Tom Cruise and Will Smith playing co-hosts for the invitation-only bash at the Museum of Contemporary Art’s Geffen Contemporary gallery in Los Angeles, the guest list was long and deep. Ron Howard and producer Brian Grazer were among the first to arrive, followed by “American Idol” creator Simon Fuller, who also managed the Spice Girls pop group that made Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham famous. Also spotted: Eva Longoria, Brooke Shields, Wesley Snipes, Quincy Jones, Bruce Willis, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher along with Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy.
The Beckhams arrived with Mr. Cruise, accompanied by his wife, Katie Holmes, and Mr. Smith with his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Men on film
The premiere of “What Black Men Think,” the new 83-minute “docu-logue”-style film by local moviemaker Janks Morton (Yes, Janks is his real first name) is expected to draw a capacity crowd to tomorrow’s screening at the Avalon Theatre in Northwest, organizers said. The film — which features man-on-the-street-interviews as well as commentaries from former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele, Harvard University professor of psychiatry Dr. Alvin F. Poussaint and actor Joseph C. Phillips (“The Cosby Show”) — is sure to rankle some for its frank discussion of such hot-button topics as male-female relationships, interracial marriage and men on the “down-low.”
Mr. Morton, 43, is up for the challenge. “Hey, if I gotta be that [sacrificial] lamb, I’ll be that lamb,” he says.
Clarkson: ’I’m sorry’
Kelly Clarkson has done a lot of talking about reports of a feud with Clive Davis over the direction of her new album, “My December.” Now she’s apologizing.
“Like any family, we will disagree and argue sometimes, but in the end, it’s respect and admiration that will keep us together,” the 25-year-old “American Idol” and Grammy winner said yesterday in a statement posted on her Web site.
