THE WASHINGTON TIMES
The Washington Redskins signed sixth-round draft pick H.B. Blades, came to terms with two other draft picks and released former Maryland quarterback Sam Hollenbach yesterday.
Fifth-round pick Dallas Sartz and sixth-round selection Jordan Palmer agreed to terms. Only first-rounder LaRon Landry remains unsigned.
Blades, whose 433 career tackles at Pittsburgh rank fifth in Big East Conference history, and Sartz, who led USC with seven sacks last season, could compete for the same roster spot. Starters Marcus Washington, London Fletcher and Rocky McIntosh and reserves Lemar Marshall and Khary Campbell figure to make the 53-man roster, leaving room for perhaps only one additional linebacker.
Palmer threw 88 touchdowns for Texas-El Paso and is the younger brother of Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer. He will compete with veteran Todd Collins and NFL Europa standout Casey Bramlet for the third-string job behind Jason Campbell and Mark Brunell.
The details of Blades’ and Palmer’s contracts were unavailable. A source with knowledge of the situation said Sartz’s deal is for four years and a potential $2.4 million, including an $185,000 signing bonus.
The Redskins have five quarterbacks on their roster following the release of Hollenbach, who was signed as an undrafted free agent and participated in the team’s minicamp last month.
The Redskins open training camp July 27.
