Court TV gets real
The network that made its name with wall-to-wall reporting of the O.J. Simpson trial is now officially backing away from celebrity courtroom coverage.
Turner Entertainment Networks yesterday announced its long-awaited name change for Court TV. As of Jan. 1, the cable network will be known as truTV.
The channel will get a new look, a new logo, and a new lineup. Series such as “Speeders,” “Forensic Files” and “Haunting Evidence” will remain. The renamed network’s focus will stay on reality, but will broaden its reach beyond the courtroom.
If you’re a fan of crime coverage, don’t despair. Each weekday morning, truTV will continue to feature a six-hour block of the network’s award-winning trial coverage, with broadband coverage continuing online.
Star Jones, a practicing attorney and a former co-host on ABC’s “The View,” will interview guests from the pop culture and legal worlds in her previously announced eponymous show, airing live weekdays at 3 p.m.
The revamped network’s other new series will include “Bounty Girls,” which centers on four female bounty hunters from Miami; “The Real Hustle,” a show featuring a trio of con artists going after unsuspecting marks; and “Most Daring,” which will focus on life-or-death rescues.
TruTV is also developing four projects including “Neighbors 911,” a show from the masterminds behind Fox’s “Nanny 911.” The intriguing series will feature former Green Beret Myke Hawke going into the homes of people whose feuding has escalated into all-out war. Other new projects will follow stormchasers, oil prospectors in Texas — and winter workers who (among other things) detonate snowdrifts with dynamite.
