PITTSBURGH The much-hyped protest by Pirates fans after the third inning last night proved to be a dud. Only about 1,000 fans, many wearing bright green shirts with slogans bashing ownership after 15 straight losing seasons, participated in the walkout.

Those who stayed in their seats mostly booed. Don’t go looking for any video footage of the event, either. Fox Sports Net Pittsburgh was instructed not to show or talk about the walkout, which wasn’t surprising.

But even the MASN crew was told by management to ignore it, a somewhat odd decision considering they cover the opposing team.

BY THE NUMBERS

18 Consecutive games the Nationals had gone without scoring in the first inning until last night. Earlier this season, they set an NL record by failing to score in the first inning of their first 22 games.
