SAN FRANCISCO Turns out both Bob Carpenter and Charlie Slowes were correct not to script their Barry Bonds home run calls in advance.
Both Nationals broadcasters shined at the magic moment Tuesday night.
Slowes captured the excitement of the scene here in San Francisco with his radio call. Carpenter, on MASN, may have had the best call of anyone, including the Giants’ crews and ESPN: “There it goes! This ball is history!”
Without saying much, Carpenter actually said it all.
OVERHEARD
“Just to be on the field with that guy, it’s an honor. Little ol’ me from Natchez, Miss. I never thought I’d be on the field for something like that. I’ll be telling everyone about it until I die.”
