B.I.G. biopic
The life and death of the slain rapper the Notorious B.I.G. is coming to the big screen in a new biopic produced by hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, Variety reported yesterday.
Notorious B.I.G., whose real name was Christopher Wallace, was shot dead in Los Angeles in March 1997— a slaying often attributed to intense rivalry between rappers on the West and East coasts.
The murder, which remains unsolved, came six months after noted Notorious B.I.G. rival Tupac Shakur was gunned down in Las Vegas. Mr. Shakur’s killers also remain at large.
According to Variety, the story will be based on Mr. Wallace’s biography, “Unbelievable: The Life, Death and Afterlife of the Notorious B.I.G.”
Mr. Wallace’s family has fought a long-running legal battle against authorities in Los Angeles, claiming that a police officer was involved in the murder, which bore all the hallmarks of a contract killing.
Spears’ lackey served
An assistant to Britney Spears was subpoenaed Sunday to offer a statement in a legal matter concerning the pop star and her ex-husband Kevin Federline, a lawyer said.
Mr. Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, told Associated Press that Alli Sims would be asked to give a deposition “in connection with the Britney Spears-Kevin Federline issue,” but would give no specifics.
He said the subpoena was delivered to Miss Sims because she was “believed to have relevant information,” but he declined to discuss what she would be asked.
It was unknown if the testimony was connected to the child custody hearing scheduled for today. Miss Spears’ spokeswoman Gina Orr did not immediately respond to an e-mail seeking comment on Sunday.
Miss Spears’ divorce from Mr. Federline, a rapper and dancer, became official July 30. Since February, Miss Spears, 25, and Mr. Federline, 29, have shared joint custody of their sons, 22-month-old Sean Preston and 10-month-old Jayden James.
Eric’s ex confesses
Eric Clapton’s former girlfriend says she and George Harrison had a fling three months after Conor, her 4-year-old son with Mr. Clapton, fell to his death from a Manhattan high-rise apartment, the New York Daily News reports.
Lory del Santo, a 46-year-old ex-model, says the three-day affair in Hiroshima, Japan, in 1991 was “sweet revenge” for both of them. Ex-Beatle Mr. Harrison — who died in 2001 — was paying back Mr. Clapton for stealing his wife, Pattie Boyd, while Miss Del Santo felt frozen out by Mr. Clapton after Conor’s death in March 1991.
A preview of Miss Del Santo’s television interview with journalist Daphne Barak appeared in London’s Mail newspaper on Sunday along with an excerpt from Miss Boyd’s new book, “Wonderful Today,” in which she reveals how Mr. Clapton’s drinking and womanizing destroyed their marriage.
“Life was one big party fueled by vast amounts of alcohol,” writes Miss Boyd — who left Mr. Harrison in 1974 after Mr. Clapton wrote the song “Layla” for her.
On the road again
It’s official: Van Halen has announced its reunion tour.
The first leg of the tour kicks off Sept. 27 in Charlotte, NC and runs through Dec. 11 in Calgary, Alberta, Newsday.com reports.
The tour brings singer David Lee Roth, guitarist Eddie Van Halen and drummer Alex Van Halen back together for the first time since 1985, though original bassist Michael Anthony will be replaced by Wolfgang Van Halen, Eddie’s son.
