PHOENIX Folks in Washington have come to realize the Nationals are playing far better than expected and appear to be on the right track.

 Not so elsewhere.

In yesterday’s Arizona Republic, the Nationals were listed among baseball’s biggest “disappointments” this season. According to an anonymous scout quoted in the piece, the Nationals (who have played better than .500 ball for three months now) are “just horrible to watch,” are “barren of young players” and are “not the right team to be moving to a new park.”

Uh, what team has that guy been watching? And what major league organization is paying him good money for that kind of evaluation?

Players in the Diamondbacks’ lineup yesterday originally drafted by Mike Rizzo, now assistant GM for the Nationals. Rizzo, who was scouting director in Arizona, drafted Conor Jackson, Justin Upton, Mark Reynolds, Chris Snyder, Stephen Drew and Micah Owings.
