The Rover postponed his Thursday night turducken-fest in lieu of a nocturnal trip to Tulsa’s LaFortune Park, a lighted par-3 course. The only two drawbacks are A) the greens are so irreparably pockmarked that they suggest a name change to LaFallujah Park, and B) the lights go out at 11 p.m. on the dot, regardless of how many players are still on the course. Both are serious problems when you’re standing over an 8-footer in total blackness on the final hole with all the paper riding on your putt.
The Rover e-mailed the UK yesterday morning to get some odds on John Daly missing the cut in spite of his opening 67. He was quoted 6-1 and 7-1. Can you imagine that? There isn’t another player in the game in that position that would have drawn such no-faith odds.
• Question of the day: Will Gary Player add Mike Weir to his Presidents Cup roster on Monday after the Canadian flopped at Southern Hills? The 37-year-old Weir is nowhere near the top 12 in the International points standings and has just two top-10s this season. But can Player afford to make the potentially disastrous diplomatic faux pas of leaving the only elite-level native Canadian off the team for an event that will be held outside of Montreal (Sept. 26-29)? The Rover thinks Weir is a lock. Then again, Player has been about as mentally stable as Lindsay Lohan over the last month.
