OPINION:
Democrats are currently going through a period of self-reflection, trying to piece together the reasons why they came up so short with voters this time around and putting forth ideas like this one, cited in The Hill, from an unnamed Dem senator at a recent lunchtime gathering of fellow leftist pols, who reportedly said: “We destroyed ourselves on the immigration issue in ways that were entirely predictable and entirely manageable.”
Umm.
Yes. That’s entirely true. But here’s the thing: If it was so “predictable” — which it was — and so very easily “manageable” — again, which it was — then why’d ya do it? Or more precisely, why’d ya fail to do it?
And this is the problem with Democrats: They can’t be trusted to do what’s right for the country.
Here’s more from this same unnamed Democrat senator, courtesy of The Hill’s reporter, apparently in attendance at this luncheon in the Mansfield Room near the Senate floor: “We utterly mismanaged that issue, including our Democratic caucus here,” he said, of border control. And more: “That’s political malpractice. That’s not someone else’ fault. That’s not the [special interest] groups pushing us around,” he said.
This senator wasn’t alone, The Hill wrote.
“A second Democratic senator said ‘a lot of Democrats think’ Biden and other party leaders mismanaged the situation at the border,” The Hill wrote.
Well, bless their little hearts.
But when it comes time to spout that message in the media — where have all the Democrats gone? Gone to their quiet corners, every one.
Yes, a few have taken public stands on the border. When President Joe Biden lifted Title 42 in mid-2023, and in so doing, opened the door for migrants claiming asylum to swarm into America, a handful of Democrats concerned about a surge of crossings tried to extend the code a couple more years. But what about the scores of other border protections Donald Trump put in place but Biden immediately reversed? One out of ten can be rewritten as nine out of ten, too. One success with ten failures is still an epic fail.
This is how the Democrats have been on border control for years.
They pretend to care about American citizens’ safety — at least, during campaign season. But they spend more time in the media convincing voters it’s the big bad Republicans who’ve held up border reform bill after border reform bill, all the while knowing the border reform bills the Democrats bring forth and support aren’t so much about controlling migrant crossings as granting amnesty and giving tax-paid entitlements to those who’ve already crossed illegally.
If Democrats truly cared about border control — truly, genuinely cared about protecting American citizens from illegals — they would’ve done something in the last four years to show they cared. They wouldn’t have named Vice President Kamala Harris as border czar and tasked her with finding out why countries south of America’s borders are sending their illegals to America. (Hint: We knew why. Because Biden was giving out free stuff to welcome them to America.)
If Democrats truly cared, they wouldn’t have sent in the attack dogs against New York City Mayor Eric Adams for speaking critically —desperately — about the explosion of illegals who were wreaking havoc on citizens’ safety and decimating whole neighborhoods in the Big Apple.
“Adams blames indictment on defiance of Democratic Party,” the Baltimore Sun wrote in September.
“NYC Mayor Eric Adams blames defiance of Democratic Party for indictment,” Dayton Now wrote in September.
Remember that?
That’s when feds released a 57-page indictment against Adams, charging with accepting bribes and taking illegal campaign donations from overseas’ entities.
Adams saw politics at play — and said so.
“I always knew that if I stood my ground for all of you [NYC citizens], that I would be a target — and a target I became,” he said, TND at Fox Baltimore wrote in September. “Leaks and rumors have been aimed at me in an attempt to undermine my credibility and paint me as guilty.”
Even when Democrats try to do right by citizens, other Democrats won’t stand for it.
This is why the Democrats, as a party, can’t be trusted.
The party’s moved down this path of anti-Americanism, pro-globalism, pro-China, pro-Marxism — and the few who object from within party ranks are quickly silenced and made irrelevant. That makes Democrats as individuals unworthy of voters’ trust, as well. After all, if the one-of-many who campaigns on the side of right speaks too loudly, that one is either targeted, like Adams, or tossed aside, like Tulsi Gabbard, who was so sidelined by the Hillary Clinton machine she turned Republican — and is still facing accusations from her former party colleagues of being a Russian asset.
“Hillary Clinton suggests Russians are ‘grooming’ Tulsi,” CNN wrote in October of 2019.
“Tulsi Gabbard, Trump’s top spy pick, faces fresh scrutiny over Syria visit and Russia comments,” BBC wrote just this week.
Lest we forget, Barack Obama’s pick for CIA chief was none other than the former commie voter, John Brennan — you know, the guy who backed with his ballot the Communist Party candidate Gus Hall for president in 1976, with the Cold War as a backdrop.
Anyhow.
The point is this: Democrats cannot be trusted.
Democrats cannot accept disloyalty to their agendas and sadly, for any Democrat raising a critical eyebrow or more sadly, for all of America, their agendas have become antithetical to the interests of U.S. citizens. The border is their biggest failing — even more so than the inflation they also failed for years to acknowledge as Biden baggage, but now do.
“Trump did this narrative — it wasn’t just anti-immigration — [but] he connected it all up to the economy [and said things like], ‘Housing prices are going up, you’re losing your job, wages,’” another senator cited in The Hill piece said.
Border was the biggie. And Americans might be very surprised to learn, some Democrats — like this one, at the recent senators’ luncheon — are saying this: “People who say, ‘Be more moderate’ — if they’re talking about the border, I agree. I’ve always agreed.”
Always agreed?
Always agreed — just never done anything about it.
Democrats cannot be trusted. They’ll side with their party and personal ambitions over voters, over citizens’ interests, over country, every single time.
