President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Rep. Mike Waltz will be his national security adviser in the new administration.

Mr. Waltz, Florida Republican, has been in the House since 2019 and was the first Green Beret elected to the chamber. He’s a retired colonel in the Army National Guard and is a China hawk.

Mike is a distinguished graduate with honors of the Virginia Military Institute. Mike has been a strong champion of my America First foreign policy agenda and will be a tremendous champion of our pursuit of peace through strength!” Mr. Trump said in a statement.

Mr. Waltz’s wife, Julia Nesheiwat, is a combat Army veteran who was the homeland security adviser in the last year of Mr. Trump’s first term as president.
