OPINION:
The World Health Organization will hold its annual World Health Assembly in Geneva this month.
A primary goal will be to implement a global pandemic treaty that would give the WHO governing authority over its 194 member nations in the case of another pandemic.
After the poor leadership the WHO showed during COVID-19, why would President Biden be inclined to follow its lead now?
Congress never mandated lockdowns, vaccine mandates or mask requirements during the pandemic. According to former Rep. Michele Bachmann, these were implemented by Mr. Biden and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on recommendation of the WHO.
Lockdowns on churches and schools (while abortion clinics and casinos were left open, by the way) did nothing to stop COVID-19.
We should get out of this leftist-leaning organization now. Then-President Donald Trump did just that, but Mr. Biden put us back in when he took office. As with the United Nations, we are a major financial contributor — yet we receive nothing for our investment.
We must not cede our medical authority to the WHO. Fortunately, legislation co-sponsored by Sen. Tommy Tuberville, Alabama Republican, would ensure that no treaty is signed without Senate approval.
Hopefully, enough bipartisan support can be achieved to prevent passage of the treaty.
