HAMDEN, Conn. (AP) - A Quinnipiac University student slashed his roommate’s neck after they argued about a dorm room light, police in Connecticut said. The victim survived the attack.

Officers responded to the Hamden college just after 3 a.m. Friday on a report of a possible fight between two roommates.

Police found a 20-year-old student with a large laceration to his neck. He told police his roommate jumped on top of him while he was sleeping, punched him in the face and cut his throat with a knife.

Officers said they negotiated with the attacker and were able to get possession of the knife.

Both students were taken to Yale New Haven Hospital. Their names have not been released. No criminal charges have been announced.

Don DiStefano, interim chief of Quinnipiac University Public Safety, told Hearst Connecticut media that the victim has been released from the hospital. He said the student who attacked his roommate has been suspended from the university pending the outcome of the police investigation and student conduct proceedings.
