Tesla will recall more than 475,000 cars over two safety concerns that could lead to crashes.
The electric vehicle company raised concerns about the hood on Model S sedans flying open and a rearview camera on Model 3s.
It is recalling 350,000 Model 3s from 2017 to 2020 and almost 120,000 Model S sedans manufactured since 2014.
Tesla said opening the trunk lid in the Model 3s can wear down a cable attached to the rearview camera enough that the images from the camera won’t transmit to the dashboard console.
“Over time, repeated opening and closing of the trunk lid may cause excessive wear to the coaxial cable. If the wear causes the core of the coaxial cable to separate, the rearview camera feed is not visible on the center display,” the company’s recall filing read.
The Model S sedan is experiencing issues with improperly installed latches that could result in the hood flying open at random, potentially obstructing the driver’s view of the road.
The Model S needs a realignment of the front trunk latch, while the Model 3s will require a new cable harness and guide protector.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Both issues will be fixed by the company free of charge.
The product recalls follow an announcement by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that Tesla owners are no longer able to play video games on the vehicle console while driving, citing safety concerns.
