FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky reached another grim milestone in the fight against the coronavirus on Wednesday as Gov. Andy Beshear announced the state reached 400 virus-related deaths since the pandemic began.
The state also surpassed 9,000 coronavirus cases, the governor said at his daily briefing.
The governor announced six more virus-related deaths, bringing the death toll to 400.
“Those are 400 families … that are in pain and that are hurting,” he said. “I never thought as governor I’d stand up and talk about losing 400 people to something that I and we are battling.”
The governor announced 127 more virus cases, bringing the statewide total to at least 9,077.
More than 3,120 people in Kentucky have recovered from the virus, he said.
For most people, the new coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough that clear up within weeks. For some, especially older adults and those with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, even death.
