FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A new program will launch this month for young people who are transitioning out of foster care, Kentucky officials said.
Youth Villages, a national nonprofit organization, is offering the LifeSet program to those between ages 17 and 21 who are leaving foster care in Lexington, Louisville and their surrounding counties, a statement from the Cabinet for Health and Family Services said.
The move is a way to ensure that youth exiting foster care have a stable transition to adulthood, the statement said.
Under the program, participants meet weekly with a trained specialist, who helps them set and achieve goals in areas that include housing, education and employment.
Department for Community Based Services Commissioner Marta Miranda-Straub said LifeSet can help youth stop living through cycles of instability.
