ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A Fort Wainwright soldier traveling to Anchorage for a intramural basketball tournament died in a crash on the Parks Highway.

Cameron Logwood, 21, of Urbana, Ohio, died in the crash Friday afternoon, the Army announced in a press release.

Logwood was an aircraft fuel handler for the 1st Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment. Two soldiers riding with Logwood were injured.

The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m. at Mile 161 near Willow, Alaska State Trooper said. Heavy snow was blowing, visibility was reduced and the highway was icy, troopers said.

A northbound one-ton pickup driven by Jeffrey Sanderson, 35 of Washington state was rounding a curve when it was struck by compact sport utility vehicle driven by Logwood. Sanderson took evasive action, troopers said, but could not avoid the collision.

Logwood died at the scene. One soldier was treated at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center and released. The other was transported to Providence Medical Center in Anchorage, where he was reported as stable.

Sanderson and a passenger were not injured.
