One of the unintended consequences of the federal COVID-19 response is that unemployment benefits have increased so much that if you make $55,000 or less a year, you will make the same amount of money collecting unemployment benefits for the next nine months as you would have made working 40 hours a week.

As the owner of a small business that is stable and secure during this crisis because of proper planning, we are having numerous employees ask to be laid off because the unemployment benefits are now so generous. The government has motivated people to collect benefits and stay home rather than work, which will keep our unemployment numbers high for months to come. This is going to hinder my business from growing in a reliable, steady and resolute manner during that time.

People should be motivated by the government to do their jobs, not to take a nine-month-long fully paid vacation at the expense of our kids and grandkids, who will need to pay back the trillions of dollars being given away right now. If you are looking for an enduring and secure job, I have numerous vacancies and we are hiring.
