HOUMA, La. (AP) - A Louisiana man who sexually assaulted two young relatives will spend 25 years in prison.

The Courier reports 58-year-old Johnny Elderton of Houma was sentenced Wednesday on two counts of sexual battery.

Detectives in Terrebonne Parish received a tip that Elderton had abused two girls, a 6-year-old and an 8-year-old. Prosecutors say he inappropriately touched the girls while covered with a blanket. He was arrested in July 2016.

Assistant District Attorney Amanda Mustin says statements from both girls were consistent and accurate. Mustin prosecuted the case and says she hopes the sentence will give the victims time to heal.

District Judge David Arceneaux says Elderton must serve the entire sentence without probation, parole or suspension of sentence.

The Courier could not reach Elderton’s attorney Jim Holt for comment.
