Redskins running back Derrius Guice is getting a second opinion Thursday on his torn meniscus to see if he needs surgery, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported.
Guice will meet with Dr. James Andrews, the renowned surgeon who repaired the 22-year-old’s torn ACL last year in Florida. If Guice opts for surgery — and Schefter reports that it’s likely — he could miss six to eight weeks.
Guice injured his right knee in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. He did not practice Wednesday and coach Jay Gruden said the running was still “getting checked out.”
Guice underwent an MRI on Monday.
With Guice likely out in Week 2 against the Cowboys, Adrian Peterson will become the starter after being a healthy scratch against the Eagles.
“We’ve talked, he’s in a good place,” Gruden said. “Nobody is happy if you’re the backup or not dressing, but you are on the team and when your number is called, you roll. Adrian is a pro and I feel very good if his number is called this week he’ll be ready to go and play very hard. He’ll be Adrian Peterson.”
Washington RB Derrius Guice is in Florida today to meet with Dr. James Andrews and get a second opinion on his torn meniscus, per sources. In the likely event that Guice decides to undego surgery, he would be expected to be sidelined six to eight weeks.
