WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts wildlife officials say a moose that was struck by two cars and had a broken leg has been euthanized.

Marion Larson, a spokeswoman for the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife, tells The Boston Globe that Worcester police were called about a bull moose that was hit by a car both Monday morning and Monday night.

The moose was spotted in a pond Tuesday morning, and the state Environmental Police responded to the scene.

Several boats were deployed so the moose did not approach Interstate 290, and to maneuver the animal into a suitable darting area.

Larson says the 3 ½-year-old moose would not have survived its injuries.

Another moose spotted in a Worcester cemetery Monday was tranquilized and freed at a state park.
