Washington Mystics star and recently crowned WNBA champion Elena Delle Donne will throw out the first pitch at Game 4 of the NL Championship Series Tuesday between the Washington Nationals and St. Louis Cardinals.
94.7 The Drive reported that not only will the league MVP be given first-pitch duty, but the Nationals will recognize the Mystics for their WNBA title before the game.
The Mystics won the first title in their 22-year history Thursday with a 89-78 win over the Connecticut Sun in Game 5 of the WNBA Finals to take the series three games to two.
Should the Nationals go the distance and win the World Series, it would also be their first championship in club history and the third major-league Washington team to do so in less than a year and a half. The Capitals won their first Stanley Cup in June 2018. (And Alex Ovechkin threw out the first pitch at Game 4 of the NLDS, which the Nationals went on to win.)
Game 3 of the NLCS is Monday night. The Nationals already lead the Cardinals two games to none after sweeping a pair of games in St. Louis.
