WASHINGTON (AP) - A gay rights march is set to return to the streets of the nation’s capital this month.

The Washington Post reports the D.C. Dyke March will return Friday after a 12-year hiatus. It’s billed as a more radical and inclusive protest ahead of Saturday’s Pride celebration. March organizers say the event’s return was heralded by the erosion of LGBTQ community services, legal protections and establishments.

Organizers say this year’s theme is displacement, something not exclusive to the LGBTQ community. The march’s goal to welcome all people and its decision to ban “nationalist symbols” such as Jewish Pride flags has upset some members of the District Jewish community, who say the move is hypocritical.

The Dyke March was born in D.C. in 1993. Similar marches have since preluded Pride events across the country.
