PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Department of Health says four of the state’s beaches can be reopened for swimming after bacteria concentrations returned to acceptable levels.
Department officials announced Saturday that they recommend the reopening of Dunes Park Beach in Westerly, Sandy Point Beach in Portsmouth, and both Third Beach and Peabody’s Beach in Middletown.
Two beaches remain closed for swimming because of high concentrations of bacteria: Camp Grosvenor in Saunderstown and Kent County YMCA Lower Pond in Warwick.
The department says it will continue to monitor beach water quality to ensure safe swimming through the summer. Updated information about water safety can be found on the department’s website .
