Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke told the NAACP’s annual conference that he’s down in the polls, but he is not out of the 2020 presidential race.

Mr. O’Rourke said that when he first ran for the House in 2012 that “no one gave us a snowball’s chance in Houston” before he won that race and said he defied expectations in his failed 2018 challenge against Sen. Ted Cruz.

“We have been a long shot before, counted down before, but I, through our persistence and our courage, I know we can come through for the American people and serve this great country,” the Texas Democrat said.

Mr. O’Rourke told the crowd that he supports strengthening voting rights and raising corporate taxes to help cover the cost of the first two years of college and pay for four-year degrees for low-income and middle-income students.
