OWINGS MILLS, Md. (AP) - Police in Maryland say a woman who was holding her infant granddaughter was struck and killed by a car in a parking lot.

The Washington Post reports that the incident occurred about 10 p.m. Saturday outside of Baltimore in the Owings Mills area.

Police said 67-year-old Ravinder Rao was holding her 11-month-old granddaughter. The woman had just emerged from a Nissan Sentra when she was struck by a Nissan Altima that was pulling away.

Police said the grandmother and the infant fell to the ground. The woman died at the scene. The girl was taken to a hospital and was listed in good condition on Sunday.

Police said the incident remains under investigation.
