Former President Jimmy Carter encouraged Sen. Cory Booker to run for commander in chief over the weekend.
The Democratic senator traveled Sunday with Rep. John Lewis to Plains, Georgia, to meet with the former president.
In an Instagram post, Mr. Booker praised Mr. Carter and Mr. Lewis as “two moral giants.”
A short video of the meeting was posted by Atlanta news producer Joe Giess.
“I hope you run for president,” Mr. Carter can be heard saying.
“You encouraging me means more to me than you can imagine,” Mr. Booker replied.
Former President Jimmy Carter is encouraging Democratic Sen. @CoryBooker to run for President. Booker was in Plains, GA with Rep. John Lewis this morning. So far, anything with #Booker2020 on it seems to be supporter made or a prop on SNL. #11Alive @11AliveNews pic.twitter.com/393Hxcfiy5

Mr. Booker has not committed to running in 2020, but is expected to join the growing field of Democratic contenders. So far, three of his colleagues in the Senate — Elizabeth Warren, Kirsten Gillibrand and Kamala Harris — have launched their own bids.
