BOSTON (AP) - A man on the Massachusetts State Police’s most wanted list for allegedly assaulting and kidnapping a woman in March has been captured.

State police say 50-year-old Kevin Hamel was caught Friday morning in Miami by the U.S. Marshals after State Trooper Thiago Miranda determined his whereabouts.

Hamel is being held in Florida as a fugitive from justice pending his return to Massachusetts.

Police say he assaulted a woman and held her against her will in Townsend on March 30.

The woman escaped and called 911, but Hamel had disappeared by the time police arrived at the scene.

Police say Hamel has an extensive criminal history including firearms and kidnapping convictions and restraining order violations.

It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.
