NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - A former Connecticut town councilor facing charges connected to his sexual relationship with a teenager has avoided prison time.

Jon Landry pleaded no contest to a charge of harassment Thursday in exchange for a 30-day suspended sentence as part of a plea deal with prosecutors.

A judge also ordered Landry to have no contact with the now 22-year-old woman as part of his plea. Violating the protective order could result in up to 10 years in prison.

Authorities say the 43-year-old ex-Farmington council member met the girl online in 2008 when she was 12 and started having a sexual relationship with her when she was 16.

He did not face sex-related charges because the girl was the age of consent.

Landry’s lawyer says his client wanted to end the case.
