President Trump will reportedly nominate a World Bank skeptic to head the international financial institution.
Citing “senior administration officials,” Politico reported that the nomination of David Malpass, currently the undersecretary of Treasury for international affairs, will come Wednesday.
Current World Bank President Jim Yong Kim unexpectedly resigned in January, three years before his term was scheduled to end as head of the agency which traditionally has a U.S.-nominated person at its head.
Mr. Malpass has lamented in the past how the World Bank and other global institutions “have grown larger and more intrusive” and said “the challenge of refocusing them has become urgent and more difficult.”
Politico called the expected Malpass pick “a clear sign the administration wants to rein in the international financial institution.”
