MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - Sanitation officials are warning residents of a South Carolina town to hold their noses.
The Post and Courier reports that work on a landfill that’s expected to last for a few more days could stink up some neighborhoods in Moncks Corner.
But officials say the situation will only be temporary.
Berkeley County officials say crews will be digging to install gas pipes, which will cause odors to surface.
They say that after the pipes are installed, the pipes will suck gas from the waste and place it into another system instead of emitting the odor into the air.
Moncks Corner is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) north of Charleston.
