The emcee of the annual Values Voters Summit cast Democrats as hypocrites for the way they’ve responded to allegations of abuse that an ex-girlfriend has leveled against one of their own, former Rep. Keith Ellison.

Gil Mertz, director of foundations for the Family Research Council, which sponsors the annual gathering of religious and social conservatives, said the left wing has given Mr. Ellison, the deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, a free pass, while pouncing on similar accusations that have been leveled against Republicans and conservatives - alluding to the blowback against President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

“Where is (Mr. Ellison’s ex) Karen Monahan’s support?” Mr. Mertz said.”Where are women standing for Karen Monahan? … Where is the Democratic call for an FBI investigation of Keith Ellison?”

He drove home his point by playing the sound of crickets.

The Values Voters Summit is playing out as senators on Capitol Hill wrestle over how best to handle the allegations of sexual abuse leveled against Mr. Kavanaugh.

The accusations from Christine Blasey Ford have bogged down the process, and sparked an uproar among liberals and women.

Democrats are demanding the final confirmation vote be put off until the FBI looks into the allegations.
