CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to five years in prison for a drive-by shooting that killed a South Carolina man nearly four years ago.

The Post and Courier of Charleston reported that 22-year-old Desmond Lamont Miller had pleaded guilty to manslaughter in April.

Twenty-one-year-old Jamal Gathers was killed in 2014 as he was riding in a vehicle and another car passed and shots were fired.

Miller was originally charged with murder, attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Prosecutor Ted Corvey said the case had been cold for two years until Miller was overheard talking on the phone with someone about his involvement in the shooting.

Miller was arrested in 2016.

He is getting credit for the more than two years he spent in jail.
