Sen. Cory Booker is consulting with one of former President Obama’s 2008 campaign chairmen as he weighs running for the White House in 2020, CNBC reported on Tuesday.
Jim Demers, a co-chair for Mr. Obama’s 2008 New Hampshire campaign, is advising the New Jersey Democrat and helping him network in the important primary state.
“I have told Cory if he runs, I plan to support him,” Mr. Demers emailed to CNBC, “I have introduced him to multiple elected officials in N.H.”
The report noted that Mr. Booker also recently reached out to Democratic strategists that worked with Hillary Clinton and Mr. Obama in Iowa.
Reaching out to new advisors in key election states shows Mr. Booker is already bolstering his chances as a potential Democratic nominee, should he decide to run in the 2020 primaries.
The pool of 2020 projects is already quite crowded, with former Vice President Joe Biden, Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts and Sen. Kamala Harris of California among the likely contenders.
