PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Rhode Island State Police are targeting dangerous drivers for the Thanksgiving holiday.
State Police Col. Ann Assumpico said Wednesday additional troopers have been assigned to provide targeted enforcement of all motor vehicle laws, especially those prohibiting driving while impaired, distracted driving and speeding.
Troopers will also be looking for people who are not wearing seatbelts and who are using hand-held cellphones, a practice which which is now banned.
Assumpico says Thanksgiving is a busy travel day and she’s asking drivers to use extra care and allow extra time to get to their destinations safely.
Providence Police say they’ll also have more officers on the roadways during Thanksgiving. Providence Col. Hugh Clements says anyone who chooses to drive impaired will be arrested. He says, “Enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday by acting responsibly.”
