SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) - An inmate has died in a maximum security prison in South Carolina.

State prisons spokesman Dexter Lee told The Post and Courier of Charleston that 31-year-old Derrick Lamont Furtick died at the Lieber Correctional Institution in Ridgeville in Dorchester County around 9 p.m. Monday.

There were no details available on the death Tuesday.

Furtick was serving a 30-year sentence for a kidnapping conviction in Orangeburg County last year.
