No. 10 Cincinnati defeated No. 11 Wichita State 62-61 Sunday in a regular season finale matchup of American Athletic Conference titans.
The win gives Cincinnati the outright regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the AAC Tournament.
The Bearcats prevented the Shockers from scoring on their final possession to preserve their one-point lead and seal the victory. Wichita State senior Conner Frankamp missed a 3-point shot in the final seconds. Neither team led by more than four points during the second half.
Bearcats guard Jacob Evans led all scorers with 19 points. Kyle Washington and Jarron Cumberland had 11 points apiece for Cincinnati (27-4, 16-2 AAC) and Gary Clark added 10.
Landry Shamet and Shaquille Morris paced Wichita State (24-6, 14-4 AAC) with 16 points each.
It is the Shockers’ first season playing in the AAC after moving in from the Missouri Valley Conference. They will be the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. Both teams are expected to earn high seeds in the NCAA Tournament.
