MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (AP) - The architect of the Medal of Honor Museum planned in South Carolina says the design would be ruined if it must be shorter than planned.
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported architect Moshe Safdie said the symbolism would be ruined if the 125-foot (38-meter) building must comply with Mount Pleasant’s height limit of 80 feet (24 meters).
The museum is to be built at the Patriot’s Point Naval and Maritime Museum, home of the aircraft carrier USS Yorktown. Safdie says the design matches the carrier control tower.
The town planning commission has recommended that the design be rejected. There is no word on when a decision will be made.
Safdie the pentagon-shaped memorial is designed to give the building symbolic significance and the height is part of that.
