WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Delaware has been awarded a grant to pursue predictive analytics with the intent of reducing gun violence.
The News Journal of Wilmington reported Monday that Gov. John Carney announced last week the state received an 18-month technical assistance grant from the University of Pennsylvania to integrate databases, aiming to identify and help at-risk youth.
The goal is aligned with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2015 recommendation to share data and use predictive analytics to combat Wilmington’s high levels of gun violence. The grant program is slated to begin in March, and will address the legal concerns that have hindered database integration.
The secretary of health and social services, Kara Odom Walker, says the data infrastructure could also be used to address homelessness, opioid addiction, among other issues.
