DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A teenager will be sentenced later after his plea in the shooting death of a man in Des Moines last February.

The Des Moines Register reports 17-year-old Dequavius Eddie Robinson entered an Alford plea Monday to voluntary manslaughter and two counts of first-degree robbery in the Feb. 7 shooting of 20-year-old Augustin Kouh. Police say Kouh was found dead on a sidewalk. Another person suffered a gunshot wound.

In an Alford plea, a suspect acknowledges there is enough evidence for a jury to reach a guilty verdict.

Robinson, of Des Moines, was 16 at the time of the shooting, which police say involved a drug transaction and robbery.

Robinson will be sentenced March 5. Because of his age, there isn’t a mandatory minimum sentence and the sentence can’t exceed 60 years.
